Every Spike Lee Movie Ranked Worst To Best

6. Inside Man (2006)

Do The Right Thing
Universal Pictures

A welcome surprise to Lee's back catalogue, Inside Man has the director trying his hand at a heist film, and offering up a rare Hollywood thriller that refuses to look down on its audiences.

Denzel Washington and Chiwetel Ejiofor star as detectives sent to negotiate with bank robber and hostage taker Clive Owen, who proves to be as dangerous as he is mysterious and cunning.

With an all-star cast rounded out by Willem Dafoe, Christopher Plummer and Jodie Foster, Inside Man is a breakneck thriller with zero predictability and rousing tension, telling a story of a seemingly straightforward robbery that turns into a political thriller and an effective look at the power of greed.

For all his films about society's woes and his objections about the Hollywood machine, Inside Man has Lee making a slick actioner better than the vast majority of his peers.
