Every Stephen King Movie Ranked Worst To Best

36. Firestarter (1984)

Stephen King Firestarter
Universal

Firestarter was originally supposed to be directed by John Carpenter, and we can only imagine, with wistful regret, how much more exciting his version of this film would have been compared to the gloomy almost-thriller we were actually sold.

The story of a young girl with deadly powers (Drew Barrymore, fresh off ET) forced to flee from a secret organisation called The Shop, it's bleak and bursting with effective set pieces, but falls emotionally flat, try as Barrymore and co-star George C. Scott might to inject it all with some human feeling.
