Every Stephen King Movie Ranked Worst To Best

22. Hearts In Atlantis (2001)

Stephen King Movies Ranked
Warner Bros.

An adaptation in the loosest sense of the novella "Low Men In Yellow Coats," Hearts In Atlantis is a quiet little drama about a young boy (the late Anton Yelchin) who forms a bond with his elderly neighbour (Anthony Hopkins). Because this is Stephen King, the old guy has psychic powers.

The film strips away the larger fantastical elements of the source material, which is basically indecipherable for anyone unfamiliar with King's Dark Tower novels, and instead makes it a warm coming-of-age tale about family found and secrets shared. It's sweet, sad, and its reach doesn't exceed its grasp even as its many mysteries unfurl.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool.
