Every Steve McQueen Movie Ranked Worst To Best
7. Red, White And Blue (2020)
When the 2021 Emmy nominations were announced, there was one glaring omission from the line-up: John Boyega.
Cast in Small Axe's third instalment, Red, White and Blue, Boyega plays former police officer Leroy Logan, who used his role in the Met to reform the system from the inside. Like all the best instalments of McQueen's anthology, the film is both urgent, raging and unrelenting in its timely socio-political themes and historical importance.
Through every twist of Logan's lonely, aggravating and tragic story, Boyega anchors the film with what is destined to be seen as perhaps his greatest role, and certainly one that promises even bigger things for his career moving forward.
Though slightly overshadowed by the rest of the Small Axe series, Red, White and Blue is nonetheless a powerhouse exploration of race, law and society that is as hard-hitting and unforgettable as anything McQueen has done before or since.
