Every Steven Soderbergh Movie Ranked Worst To Best
23. Bubble (2005)
Made without a completed script and starring a range of non-actors in leading roles, Bubble is yet another of Soderbergh's risky experiments, and another that didn't quite work.
Bubble follows three doll factory workers (Debbie Doebereiner, Misty Dawn Wilkins, Dustin James Ashley) as their personal lives, vendettas and secrets collide in an explosion of jealousy and murder.
It's a seriously creepy work from Soderbergh, boasting some briefly intriguing assessments of working class rage and the mundanity of the everyday, and a simple narrative that amplifies the story's decidedly dark atmosphere.
It's let down in the end, though, by its non-actor cast, who aren't particularly on the ball and struggle to add any gravitas to the already-stilted, unfinished script.
Simply put, Bubble would've work much better had Soderbergh toned down the experimentation and made a straightforward psychological drama.
