Every Steven Spielberg Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
21. A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Possibly Spielberg's most divisive film, A.I. was of course famously helmed by the filmmaker (in a rare capacity as writer-director) after Stanley Kubrick bequeathed the project to him shortly before his death.
It will forever remain a mystery what Kubrick would've made of the material, but commendably Spielberg doesn't let his frothier instincts get in the way too much, delivering an immensely atmospheric if also incredibly rough-around-the-edges sci-fi drama.
Haley Joel Osment is magnificent as android David in a film that doesn't always know quite what it wants to be, but it's agreeably dark and drips with sheer mood from its every pore. It'd be great if Spielberg made more movies like this, honestly.
