Every Story Of Creepshow Season One Ranked

7. The Companion

A teenage boy named Harold (perhaps a nod to the scarecrow in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) is pursued by a stereotypical Stephen King bully, before stumbling upon a secluded farmhouse. The farmhouse is owned by an elderly man, who resides with the straw ‘companion’ that he constructed as a comfort following his late wife’s passing.

It’s hardly an inventive concept, and The Companion is easily the most straightforward of the stories in Creepshow season one, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s a great looking segment, which is often reminiscent of the old crone’s lair in Pumpkinhead. It has a satisfyingly nostalgic feel, rather like an episode of a 90s children’s horror anthology series, like Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark tweaked for an adult audience. The scarecrow design is also absolutely phenomenal.
