Every Movie Trailer From Super Bowl 50 Ranked From Worst To Best
6. Independence Day: Resurgence
Gotta hand it to Fox - they sure know how to craft a Super Bowl TV spot. While every other teaser was just another trailer, thankfully shortened down by extreme airing costs, all of theirs really steered into the event (and, bar Eddie The Eagle, it really worked). Here they played up the extreme Americanism of the movie in question, with "Star Spangled Banner" belted out before the grabbing image of a jet flyby being interrupted by alien invaders. It helps Independence Day: Resurgence is named after the nation's biggest holiday (despite coming out a week beforehand), but it's still an enhancing touch. I have to say, the movie formerly known as ID4Eva looks a lot better than the initial trailer. The effects are clearly a lot more finalised, with us getting to see some proper destruction - city-sized spaceships smashing into the Earth, spacefights that would make Poe Dameron pause for breath and entire buildings crashing down on London - and even someone not enamoured with the original can't help getting a little giddy (maybe because there's no Will Smith). The whole thing loses its edge when you realise the climactic shot of the patriotic, "U. S. A." screaming deal is actually showing London, but the trailer does do the one thing it needed to do; prove that Roland Emmerich can still do spectacle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5K0lKrebqg
