Every Superhero Movie This Decade Ranked - Worst To Best

20. Deadpool (2016)

With all the hand-wringing about superhero fatigue in recent years, Deadpool was an incredible breath of fresh air upon release, with its R-rated tone allowing the Merc with a Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) to go to places virtually no other tentpole could.

Though the core plot is actually pretty forgettable and there are a few too many bland superhero tropes - the lame, forgettable villain and Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) becoming a third-act damsel - the fourth wall-breaking gags, go-for-broke violence and Reynolds' tenacious performance make it easy to forgive.

More than all this, though, seeing an R-rated movie starring a fairly niche superhero (to casual audiences, anyway) gross almost $800 million worldwide was an extremely encouraging statement about the potential future of comic book movies.
