Every Superhero Movie This Decade Ranked - Worst To Best
6. Captain America: Civil War (2016)
While it veers away from the source material on which it's based - and some would argue for the better - Civil War effortlessly delivers on the promises of the Avengers being divided, with a morally complex issue that genuinely split audiences also.
Robert Downey Jr. meanwhile gives by far his best performance as Tony Stark, Helmut Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) is a refreshingly grounded, human villain, it boasts the MCU's single best set-piece to date - the airport battle, of course - and Spider-Man even joins the fray for good measure.
Though there was a disappointing lack of heroic casualties, Civil War nevertheless did a fantastic job of driving a wedge between the two sides, as was dramatically necessary for Infinity War to unfold as it did. The action, the script and the performances are all among the series' best and smartest.
