More than a decade after Judgement Day, a third chapter in the Connor Family story arrived without James Cameron. It's remembered rather cynically, but it was far less terrible than some might have you believe.

It was incredibly expensive and it does show in the film's commitment to spectacle. It's a great action film, at its core and if the character work had matched up to that side of the film, the end product might have been significantly better. Sadly, though, Nick Stahl, Claire Danes and Kristanna Loken fail to leave too much of a mark.

The end picks things up nicely, though, and the introduction of the idea that fate is inevitable was both a good kick in the teeth and also a clever marketing decision for the franchise.

This film shows the first signs that Arnie is really enjoying himself as the T800 and while that did provide some nice moments further on, it ends up grating here and setting a dangerous precedent that clipped the fangs of one of the best movie badasses of all time.
