Every Texas Chainsaw Massacre Movie Ranked Worst To Best
4. Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III
When looking at the nine Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies so far, Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III is the film that's most like a full-on slasher movie. Likewise, this is the TCM picture which presents Leatherface as most like a full-on slasher villain, ala Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees.
Famously, this is a film that was butchered in the editing suite, with countless cuts being made in order to get The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III rated for release. In total, over four minutes of gore was left on the cutting room floor as part of this, which may not sound like much, but is an extremely substantial amount of content for a horror film. Especially when the end result is a movie which feels tepid and rather dull when it comes to its kills, particularly when compared to certain other Texas Chainsaw features.
In this 1990 effort, car trouble throws a couple directly into the line of the Sawyer family, with that sinister clan stalking this couple - and the ever-great Ken Foree - through the backroads of Texas. It's all very generic and very indicative of where the horror genre was at in 1990, but there's just enough here to rank Leatherface above The Next Generation.
Also, much like The Next Generation featured a before-they-were-famous Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III has a pre-fame Viggo Mortensen as Ed Sawyer - although he's burned alive before the end credits roll.
