Every Tim Burton Film Ranked From Worst To Best

4. Ed Wood

Edward Scissorhands, like Tim Burton, just can't reach out and touch others
Buena Vista Pictures

Big Eyes was the second film that saw Tim Burton move to the realm of historical recounts, as his first title told the story of the infamously awful director Ed Wood. This project entirely does justice to the legacy of this terrible filmmaker as it generates a compelling exploration of what it means to love your work, even if no one else does.

Ed wood follows the titular hero as he works incredibly hard to see his dreams of becoming a prominent Hollywood director come true. The only issue is that he has hardly any filmmaking talent whatsoever. Still, he enlists the help of the legendary Bela Lugosi to make his own movies and the two form a great connection.

Johnny Depp is fantastic in the lead role, but Martin Landau as Lugosi steals the show. It is no wonder that he went on to win an Academy Award for this performance, as it is not only accurate to the actor, but full of nuance and energy.

The film has this beautiful love of the character and makes him feel like the down on his luck hero. Throughout its run, you truly feel for him and want to see him succeed, which makes the title entirely engaging, fun to watch and genuinely moving.
