Every Tim Burton Film Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Edward Scissorhands

Edward Scissorhands, like Tim Burton, just can't reach out and touch others
20th Century Fox

Edward Scissorhands is an excellent example of the misconceptions of this director's work. You look at it and all its dark, gothic energy and believe you will get a frightening film about a killer. But the movie is actually an incredibly wholesome and loving title that explores themes of prejudice and misunderstanding. Edward may look like the perfect slasher movie villain, but he proves why you shouldn't judge a movie by its poster.

One day an Avon rep called Peg finds Edward, a living creation of the inventor who lived in a castle on the hill of this suburban town. With the inventor having passed, Edward has lived alone for almost his entire life until Peg brings him down to move in with her family. Soon everyone is fascinated by him, and unfortunately, his differences become a source of conflict.

The movie has this brilliant outlook on the mundanity of suburban life, with this new presence enthralling the housewives who are tired of their lives of boredom and routine. However, in inventing excitement for themselves, they eventually end up demonising the innocent Edward.

It looks gorgeous, has a compelling narrative and an utterly loveable lead which helps to carry this film into the upper echelon of the Burton collection.
