Every Tim Burton Film Ranked From Worst To Best

19. Dark Shadows

Edward Scissorhands, like Tim Burton, just can't reach out and touch others
Warner Bros.

This movie had some good intentions but is another outing that proves Tim Burton should stick to original concepts and avoid remaking existing properties. The film is based on a TV show of the same name and ends up being not only completely unfunny, but devoid of any soul.

After an imprisoned vampire - named Barnabas Collins - is freed from his captivity and brought to his ancestral home, he must adjust to a modern way of living. In addition to this, his decedents bring him into their employ in order to protect them from incoming threats. The narrative ends up feeling relatively redundant, as the focus is primarily spent on the characters.

The unique collection of actors and well-defined roles should have made this a sure-fire hit. Unfortunately, nothing quite comes together, and it ends up feeling entirely awkward as opposed to well thought out.

Ultimately, each performance is fine, the cinematography is okay, and it's a painfully mundane outing. Sadly, compared to the rest of the work of this creative director, that is the worst crime it could commit.
