As far as action sequels go, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is about as generic as they come, allowing Cruise to do some typically inspired work where the action sequences are concerned, but unable to keep up with the script's troubling attempts at drama.

Never Go Back finds Reacher teaming up with Cobie Smulders' framed army major and confronted with the left-field news that he has a daughter.

Tonally nightmarish with splashes of semi-decent action, Never Go Back is noticeably rushed and narratively jarring, and Cruise, though far from bad, is clearly just going through the motions whilst Smulders does all the heavy lifting.
