Every Upcoming Disney Live-Action Remake - Ranked By Hype
2. Peter Pan
Disney's 1953 animated adaptation of J. M. Barrie's play Peter Pan is certainly more of an enduring classic with kids than adults, but it's hard to argue with the iconic characters, memorable songs and endearingly fantastical tone.
There have been countless other Hollywood movies based on Peter Pan over the years - namely Steven Spielberg's Hook in 1991, P. J. Hogan's 2003 Peter Pan and Joe Wright's 2015 dud Pan - but the upcoming remake just might be the most interesting of the lot.
The new Peter Pan will be directed by the brilliant David Lowery (Pete's Dragon, A Ghost Story) in collaboration with his Pete's Dragon scribe Toby Halbrooks, and rumours suggest it may end up debuting on Disney+ instead of a typical theatrical bow.
Given Lowery's singular directing talents, it's safe to say that this will probably be a more grounded and unique Peter Pan story than we've ever seen before.
He proved with Pete's Dragon that he can combine fantasy and family drama to disarming effect, and despite the film under-performing at the box office, Disney is clearly more interested in Lowery's vision than a titanic box office (hence the probable streaming release).
