Every Upcoming Disney Live-Action Remake - Ranked By Hype
11. The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
Though unquestionably one of the lesser entries into the decade-long Disney Renaissance, The Hunchback of Notre Dame is still a well-regarded animation which could lend itself incredibly well to the live-action treatment.
The remake - apparently simply named "Hunchback" - will be written by David Henry Hwang (The Affair), with composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz returning to once again write the music (yes, it's still a musical).
Josh Gad is signed on as a producer and it's widely expected that he'll end up starring as Quasimodo, which honestly feels like a pretty perfect fit.
Fans of Victor Hugo's rich source material will surely be hoping that this likely more teen-skewing version might lean a little closer into the darkness of his novel, though given the inevitable PG audience rating, you probably shouldn't expect too much.
Still, even a journeyman director should be able to make the Gothic setting visually stunning, and because the animation falls a little short of greatness, there's no fear of butchering a classic.
