Every Upcoming Disney Live-Action Remake - Ranked By Hype

9. Aladdin

Aladdin Genie
Disney

On paper Aladdin certainly sounds like a slam-dunk for the live-action treatment, but the reality - which saw Disney bafflingly hire Guy Ritchie for the gig - might prove a little different.

Aladdin didn't get a great start out of the gate with the first glimpse of Will Smith's Genie being met with near-universal scorn online, though the recently-released full trailer did at least suggest it won't be the trainwreck many were fearing.

But still, it's hard to be optimistic about the movie being anything more than an overproduced mess, which just might be able to coast on Smith's charms, the iconic songs and its sheer exuberant style.

The new Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) looks rubbish, and neither Aladdin (Mena Massoud) nor Jasmine (Naomi Scott) are quite convincing yet either.

But the film probably won't be bad all things considered, and regardless of critical reception, it's going to clean up at the box office.

Aladdin hits cinemas May 24.
