Every Upcoming Disney Live-Action Remake - Ranked By Hype
8. Pinocchio
How can you not love Pinocchio? The story is timeless and transcends both language and culture: pretty much everybody knows it and loves it.
It was just a matter of time before Disney pursued a live-action version, which has already cycled through a couple of directors, with Sam Mendes being switched out for Paddington's Paul King, who himself recently left the project for "family reasons."
Jack Thorne (Wonder) is currently re-writing the script while Disney seeks out a replacement director, but in a perfect spot of casting, Tom Hanks will reportedly play Geppetto.
This one really comes down to the tone and execution: it will require an auteur with a distinctive filmmaking voice to stand up to the classic original, and as such it's a damn shame that Paul King ended up leaving the project.
If Disney can find a similarly-skilled filmmaker to fill the void, then there's every reason to be excited.
No word on a release date yet, but even if a new director is announced tomorrow, it clearly won't hit screens before late 2020.
