28. A Wrinkle In Time
Release Date: 9th March, 2018
Status: Filming wrapped.
After cementing herself as a truly great modern director with Selma and the Oscar-worthy documentary 13th, Ava DuVernay is changing it up massively for an adaptation of classic 1962 sci-fi fantasy novel A Wrinkle In Time, whose concept is no doubt going to warrant lots of effects, a massive budget and bucketloads of imagination.
The story centres on a family of young children who travel through dimensions to find their father with the use of a Tesseract (not Thor's), visiting stunning, strange new worlds and encountering extremely odd creatures as they battle a world-ending force of pure evil. If it sounds like an LCD fever dream, that's because it mostly reads like one. The visual effects should be great at least.
27. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Release Date: 26th May, 2017
Otherwise known as Salazar's Revenge in Europe for some reason, the fifth chapter in the franchise Captain Jack Sparrow has completely stolen sees him once more being tracked by pirate hunters and ghosts (this time one and the same in the shape of Javier Bardem's creepy Captain Salazar), as well as searching for another secret MacGuffin (the trident of Poseidon) to save his skin and that of every other pirate.
Smartly, Disney are bringing back Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley (though probably not as main characters), and we can expect the usual big stunts and swaggering silliness from Depp as usual. And we can also probably expect lots of money to be made too.
