24. Gigantic

Release Date: Wed November 25th, 2020

Status: In pre-production.

There may be some concerns that Disney just shunted this back two years to 2020 rather than November 2018, but these things generally take time, and it's somewhat inevitable that the Frozen and Wreck-It-Ralph sequels would take higher priority.

It is of course another take on the classic Jack & The Beanstalk legend, only this time set in Spain during the Age of Exploration. And as an inevitable mark of excellent, it's directed by Tangled co-director (and Big Hero 6 creative advisor) Nathan Greno with Inside Out writer Meg LeFauvre.

23. Pinocchio

Possible Release Date: 12th March, 2021

Status: Announced.

At last count there were three Pinocchio remakes in the works - one from Guillermo Del Toro, one fromWarner Bros that Ron Howard was attached to and the Disney version with Peter Hedges directing. Apparently his will be slightly darker than the original animation, with more focus on Carlo Collodi‘s 1883 novel.

This is no bad thing, and neither is the promise of the focus tightening on the relationship between father and son. As long as they recapture the classic scenes well (and add that promised darkness), we'll be in for a treat.
