Every Wes Anderson Film Ranked Worst To Best
1. The Royal Tenenbaums
What can be said about The Royal Tenenbaums that hasn’t already been said? It netted Anderson his first ever Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay and it’s not at all hard to see why. It’s a highly original story about a dysfunctional family, that went on to inspire the likes of hit sitcom Arrested Development, brimming with outstanding performances from both veteran and rising star actors, and perfectly time needle drops from rock classics.
Everything in this film just works. From the moment you meet the eccentric Tenenbaum family in the inspired opening sequence, you know that this is a family drama which stands head and shoulders above many others in its genre.
Anderson is once again as his best as he strikes the perfect balance between his eye for framing a scene and the genuine heart at the core of all his films. The lack of polish in his earlier films works to his advantage here, showing the Tenenbaums and their close associates in a totally unfiltered light.
It’s one of the truest films about that peculiar love that odd families like this have, and The Royal Tenenbaums alone marks Anderson as one of the finest voices of his filmmaking generation.
