Every Wilhelm Scream In The Star Wars Saga
2. The Force Awakens (2015)
Ushering in a new trilogy of (Disney-owned) Star Wars films, The Force Awakens moves the action on by 30 years, with a new female hero, Rey (Daisy Ridley), facing off against Vader's grandson, a decidedly Anakin-esque Kylo Ren, or, the apprentice formerly known as Ben Solo. Pairing up with Han Solo and Chewbacca, Rey joins The Resistance in the fight against the neo-Empire First Order and their ice planet super weapon, Starkiller Base.
In film's first act, a disillusioned stormtrooper named Finn jailbreaks Resistance pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) from Kylo Ren and General Hux's (‎Domhnall Gleeson) star destroyer. During the escape, the pair hijack a tie fighter and Finn mans the turret, blasting wildly at the troops in the hangar below. Several First Order stormtroopers are obliterated in the process, but not before one cements his lineage, finding a place in cinema history with perhaps the final Wilhelm scream of the Star Wars saga...
There are Easter eggs, cameos and surprises galore peppered throughout The Force Awakens, so to pick any one would seem sacrilege to a film that committed itself to a truly otherworldly level of fan service - whether fans liked it or not. However, a few highlights include James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, starring as a stormtrooper; Finn's trooper number - 2187 - being the same digits as Leia's cell number in A New Hope; and the flags hanging above Maz Kanata's bar, which reference characters and locales from every other film in the series.
