Every Wilhelm Scream In The Star Wars Saga

1. The Last Jedi (2017)

Finally, we reach The Last Jedi, a film which split fan opinion in a way The Phantom Menace could only have dreamed of - though it generally garnered far better reviews from critics. Rey tracks down Luke for training on Ahch-To, Poe and the remaining members of The Resistance flee the First Order, Kylo kills his master Supreme Leader Snoke (voiced by Andy Serkis) and we bear witness to Luke's final stand, or sit.

The Last Jedi is perhaps where Wilhelm has finally died, as there is some debate as to whether the scream features at all in the second instalment of the sequel (and supposedly 'final') trilogy.

Though the iconic audio clip is not forthcoming, even upon several close viewings, a number of dedicated fans and audiophiles have claimed that the sound is embedded in one of Kylo Ren's lightsaber movements during his fight with Luke's force projection towards the end of the film. Unfortunately, this seems based more in wishful thinking rather than hard fact, as The Last Jedi's sound editor, Matthew Wood, has stated the Wilhelm scream will no longer be used in Star Wars films, claiming that neither this film nor non-saga entries like Rogue One or Solo feature the sound effect. If this is the end, it only seems appropriate to finish on an aaargh.
