Every Year In The MCU Ranked Worst To Best
3. 2017
Before 2017, each calendar year in the Marvel Cinematic Universe produced either one or two movies, and in the case of 2009, none at all. This was the first year that production ramped up to three movies, and they were three fantastic outings.
In May, James Gunn released the sequel to his outstanding MCU debut, and while Guardians Volume 2 was possibly not quite as well received as the first one, it was still a huge success. The addition of Kurt Russell as Star-Lord’s father was an inspired casting decision, and it essentially just gave us more of the same as the first movie three years earlier.
The second movie of 2017 was arguably one of the biggest landmarks in the MCU’s history, as Homecoming kicked off Spider-Man’s new solo franchise under the Marvel Studios banner. Tom Holland surpassed all expectations after his debut in Civil War, and Michael Keaton’s Vulture was one of the best villains Spider-Man went up against in years.
Rounding off the already incredible year for the franchise was the new and improved Thor under the direction of Taika Waititi. Ragnarok was the epitome of going above and beyond all expectations, as the duo of Waititi and Hemsworth completely turned the character around from the almost boring God of Thunder he had become. Simply put, the Marvel Cinematic Universe did not miss in 2017.
