Phase Two was brought to a close in 2015, firstly with the second coming together of the Avengers in Age of Ultron. This was the next big crossover in the franchise, but it left fans disappointed when the credits started to roll.

Even with arguably the greatest opening to any MCU movie, and the introduction of Vision, Wanda, and for the briefest time Pietro, 2015 got off to a poor start with Age of Ultron. There were certain expectations in place for the next Avengers movie, and Joss Whedon missed the mark on just about all of them.

Strangely, Age of Ultron wasn’t what closed out Phase Two, it was Ant-Man. The first individual origin story since The First Avenger offered the franchise’s first real comedy movie with Paul Rudd at the helm, and it was fun if unspectacular.

The comedy legend, and most recent recipient of the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ award brought a lot to the MCU table, but it would have taken a much better movie than Ant-Man to wash the still sour taste of the Age of Ultron disappointment from the mouths of the fans.
