Every Zack Snyder Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
3. Man Of Steel
Perhaps the most purely divisive film in Snyder's back catalogue, Man of Steel marked a radical departure from prior Superman movies in attempting to give the superhero the gritty, dark, Christopher Nolan-esque treatment.
Snyder's keen eye for visuals serves him incredibly well here, even if many lament the film's general lack of colour.
More polarising is its approach to story and especially character, stripping away the chisel-jawed charm expected from Superman and reimagining him as a more conflicted, dour character.
But there's a boldness to the film all the same that's quite intoxicating - its refusal to play by the chirpy rules, and to confront the silliness of no-kill policies with Supes' neck-snapping final act.
Yes, it's too long, the finale descends into CGI overkill, and there are moments that just don't work - namely Jonathan Kent's (Kevin Costner) death - but it also dares to do something totally different with a beloved icon, and for all its flaws mostly succeeds.
