Evil Dead: 10 Suggestions For The Franchise Moving Forward

6. The Story Needs To Be Freshened Up

Evil Dead made the unpredictable call of letting Mia survive the film, especially after being possessed so quickly and letting possession spell certain death for most of the other characters. Other than that, pretty much everything else happened as it would in a normal horror film. One by one, all of the inhabitants of the cabin were lured into the trap, it sprung, and they died in a gruesome manner, dispatched by a fellow cabin mate. This is pretty much a cut and pasted of the original horror formula, except with less humor, no premarital sex, and the disadvantage of history beating it to the punch. Again, it wasn't necessarily a bad call, but it's a call they can't afford to make again. The world of Evil Dead needs to be updated to fit our modern times, and it's going to take more than a heroin addiction to separate Evil Dead 2 from...well, Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn. Why not let The Necromicon come out to play in an urban environment? (Which would make an awesome justification for letting the Evil Dead games become official canon.) The audience is happy to see Evil Dead raise itself from the dead, but to keep it on its feet it needs to be touched up.
