Evil Dead: 10 Suggestions For The Franchise Moving Forward

5. The Scares Need Updating As Well

evil-dead-basement Besides the story, and the humor, the scare factor in Evil Dead needs a revamp as well. The scariest bit about the new film was probably the look of Mia's possessed form, and even then it wasn't all that new from what we'd seen before. Still a step up from Raimi's original, admittedly laughable demons; but still not exactly making us scream bloody murder. This might lie in the fact that except for being possessed by demons, and a particularly friendly snake-like creature, we really weren't exposed to many horrifying creatures. You're probably asking yourself, "But Mike, aren't demons and rapey snakes enough?" No, not when your movie has the name "Evil Dead" plastered all over it. Not when we've seen armies of the undead laying siege to a castle. Not when we've seen portals to other worlds opening. And that's not even counting what other, more modern horror films have shown us as of late. Evolve or die... it's something all remakes live or die by, and it's something Evil Dead needs to keep in mind when coming back to play.
