9. Double Voice
Double voice is the preferred cinematic method of making someone sound possessed or otherwise supernaturally evil. The character speaks using their own voice, but underneath a second voice echoes the words giving the impression of the presence of a foreign entity. Its a classic horror technique used many times throughout film history and of course used in Raimis original Evil Dead trilogy. Okay so its not exactly taking a hammer to the mould but its still pretty scary and it does lend an element of faithfulness to the trailer. The original Evil Dead movies (certainly the first two) were about duality, about Ash facing the fact that his friends suddenly werent his friends at all; they were demons wearing their faces. Scary stuff, when you really think about it, despite the fact that there was a somewhat heavy emphasis on humour. Although certainly in the remake, it looks like the emphasis is more heavily on scary than on scary-funny.
