Evil Dead Remake: 15 Talking Points In The New Red Band Trailer

9. Double Voice

Double voice is the preferred cinematic method of making someone sound possessed or otherwise supernaturally evil. The character speaks using their own voice, but underneath a second voice echoes the words giving the impression of the presence of a foreign entity. It€™s a classic horror technique used many times throughout film history and of course used in Raimi€™s original Evil Dead trilogy. Okay so it€™s not exactly taking a hammer to the mould but it€™s still pretty scary and it does lend an element of faithfulness to the trailer. The original Evil Dead movies (certainly the first two) were about duality, about Ash facing the fact that his friends suddenly weren€™t his friends at all; they were demons wearing their faces. Scary stuff, when you really think about it, despite the fact that there was a somewhat heavy emphasis on humour. Although certainly in the remake, it looks like the emphasis is more heavily on €˜scary€™ than on €˜scary-funny€™.
