Evil Dead Rise Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

1. It's One Of The Weaker Evil Dead Movies

Though the fifth Evil Dead movie is certainly a solid horror flick, it's in no way among the better entries into the series, and can't hold a candle to the first two films in particular.

Quality-wise it sits around the same level as 2013's remake, doing some things better than it and others worse, but quite decisively falling below the original three Bruce Campbell-starring films.

Because so much of this movie feels like it's raking over past glories and offering a same-but-different spin on them, yet lacking the face-melting intensity of the remake, it just doesn't sit anywhere close to the top of the pack.

Still, the fact that the series hasn't yet produced a single bad movie is certainly something to celebrate, making it perhaps the most consistent major horror franchise in cinema history.
