Exact Reasons These 10 Sequels Were Never Made
1. Bill Murray Hated The Pitches For (The Original) Ghostbusters 3
We're now getting a new Ghostbusters movie, but for decades, Dan Aykroyd appears to have tried his damnedest to get a different version entirely made. Several different versions in fact.
The one we know the most about is Ghostbusters: Hellbent, which would have seen the gang leading a major corporation of second generation 'Busters and ending up in an alternate dimension of Manhattan called Manhellton. It was... interesting, to say the least.
The problem with that movie - and indeed several other drafts including one where Venkman would have been a ghost for the whole thing - is that Bill Murray wouldn't budge on his refusal to make it. In his eyes, the script simply wasn't right - he actually called it "kind of funny, but not well executed," which is pretty shady to his former collaborator. To be a little more fair to him, though, he did say that the first Ghostbusters' chemistry is a hard thing to recapture "unless you have a clear vision, you’re always trying to recapture that."
Fingers crossed that Jason Reitman has a clear vision then, eh?
