Exact Reasons These 10 Sequels Were Never Made

How Tomorrowland killed your chance to see Tron 3...

Have you ever wondered why there was never a follow-up to Drag Me To Hell? Well, it's pretty simply: Sam Raimi simply couldn't think of a good story for it. He was always open to it, he says, but the idea simply isn't there. It's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

You see, sometimes, sequels simply dry up and never make it to the big screen, but there are also some very interesting stories out there behind why we didn't get to see follow-ups you would have expected to see. Even if you didn't necessarily want to.

It's not always just a matter of the story not being there, despite studios wanting an extension or something actually being greenlit and it isn't always just about money either (though it does play a big part in different ways). For some cases in point, here are some sequels we almost got and why they didn't make it...

10. The Intended Star Character Died - The Bodyguard 2

The Bodyguard Kevin Costner
Warner Bros.

After Kevin Costner showed the world how to love in The Bodyguard, there were discussions in place to make a sequel that would bring him back with an even more famous client than Whitney Houston's fictional popstar.

As confirmed by Costner quite recently, he had been in talks with Princess Diana about the possibility of a sequel based around his experienced security man being assigned to her. And despite him falling for Houston's character in the first movie, Costner would have fallen for the princess in the follow-up and there would have been "a little bit of" kissing, which apparently concerned Diana, whose life was governed pretty closely.

The talks for the sequel had been initiated by Sarah Ferguson and we may have got the see the sequel were it not for the real-life tragedy of Diana's death. Chillingly, the first script had only arrived on Costner's desk the day before she was killed in a car crash in France on 31st August 1997.
