The Expendables 3: 10 Action Behemoths The Franchise Is Still Missing
2. Steven Seagal
Though Steven Seagal's waistline and hairline have seen much better days, it's undeniable that some of his early movies like 1988's Above the Law and 1992's Under Siege are action classics. Like many of the other Expendables, you'll find Seagal's recent movies on the DVD racks instead of at theatres, but he remains one of the most popular direct-to-video action stars and still appears in several movies a year despite his busy side careers of being a musician and working as a deputy sheriff in Louisiana (and yes, both of those are true). Seagal made his first big screen appearance in nearly a decade in 2010's Machete, but he hasn't had any roles in theatrically released films since. When Stallone was casting The Expendables 3 he teased that Seagal might be cast, but when the final cast was announced Seagal's name was nowhere to be seen. Because of that, Seagal is the biggest 1980s/1990s American action star who hasn't yet appeared in the franchise. Like Jean-Claude Van Damme in the second film, Seagal's notoriety makes him a good choice for a villainous mastermind who goes up against the Expendables. As long as the franchise needs a big villain, Seagal could easily fill those shoes.
