3. The Violence Is Excessive

You might read this critique with rolled eyes and a shaking head because action flicks are supposed to be violent. While that's very true, they don't need to be excessive.

Extraction falls victim to this as it often descends into excessively bloody territory just because it can, featuring unnecessarily uncomfortable visuals, long dragging shots of bloody bodies and deaths specifically filmed from angles that highlight the graphic manner in which said deaths take place.

When used right, graphic violence can be an effective method of getting a point across on-screen and ultimately eliciting a certain response from the viewer. When used wrong, however, (or just too many times) it loses meaning and becomes gratuitous. And unfortunately, more often than not, that's what happens here.
