To complain that Johnny Depp is playing the major villain in a franchise this big is beyond ludicrous. He might make back decisions sometimes these days, but he's still a good actor and without the creative influence of Tim Burton we might actually get a good performance out of him.
Equally, it's hard to really call this a good performance, because he's not in it very much. His brief appearances that bookend the plot are good for mythology building and he looks interesting enough, but when you consider how needlessly complex his plot is and the fact that he is overwhelmed by a wizrd expelled from Hogwarts DESPITE HAVING THE ELDER WAND, he loses considerable credibility.
Yes, I want to see more of him, and that's pretty much what his appearance needed to establish.
