Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald Final Trailer Reaction: 8 Ups & 2 Downs
2. The Stakes Look Huge
This is not exactly a war-time movie: it's more like a story perched on the very edge of war, loaded towards that and teetering, but not quite there yet. That's why Newt is seemingly sent to kill Grindelwald under the radar and has to fight against his own side to fulfill his mission (including his brother, in fact).
But the fact that this is just Grindelwald whipping up followers after his escape doesn't mean the stakes don't feel huge. Thanks to some clever cinematography and excellent world-building (plus the very ominous atmospherics, of course), there's a very real sense that the world is under huge threat.
It also appears there will be enough major set-pieces in there to cater to even the most vociferous and enthusiastic of action fans, which will also load more poignancy onto the fact that Newt is essentially working alone (albeit with some friends, a la Harry Potter) to take down a force vastly bigger than he is. That's real hero fertilizer right there.
