16. The Starting Year Is A Nod To The Earlier Films

We're so far along in the 21st Century now that a movie's hero can have been a school kid as late as 2007. Seriously... Guess it's just time to accept that. 2007 was ostensibly chosen as the setting of the film's opening so Reed could be a high school graduate in the modern day, but it also serves as a nice callback to Fantastic Four's (less than illustrious) past - it was the year when the last film of the previous iteration (Rise Of The Silver Surfer) was released, marking this film out as a brand new start.
