Fast & Furious 8: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best

You can sort of see why Sam Hobbs was included in the film: she was supposed to offer an extrapolated morality tale of what might happen to Dom's relationship with his son if he sticks around in his high-octane life - as well as reaffirming why Brian wasn't allowed to come back into the fold. But it almost feels like her whole role was cut.

She's supposed to paint Hobbs as an absentee father, despite the fact that he's her soccer coach who has spent enough time with the team to get them to the Championship final. It's not even like they have a dysfunctional relationship, she just sort of exists as a narrative frayed end, serving to make Hobbs look like even more of a good guy or something. And giving him an excuse not to go back to being a cop, so he can bend the law in further sequels even more.

And the confusing is, his conviction to stay at home either means he's now retired (which isn't happening because he's too valuable as a brand), or that he's a massive liar to his daughter when he inevitably goes on another mission in Fast 9.
