Fast & Furious 9 Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

3. It's WAY Too Long

The last Fast and Furious movie to run under two hours in length was 2009's fourth film, Fast and Furious, and the last few entries in particular have really started to push it with their overblown runtimes.

But F9 takes this to truly outrageous lengths with its stamina-destroying 145-minute runtime, making it quite appropriately a similar length to your average contemporary superhero movie.

As action-packed as the film might be, it's also bloated out with a cloying excess of flashbacks to Dom and Jakob's past, and a perhaps over-eager desire to cram in as many cameos from prior characters as acting schedules will allow.

F9 confirms once again that bigger isn't automatically better, and one sincerely hopes that F10 and F11 won't be angling any closer to the three-hour mark.

None of these movies have ever needed to be more than 130 minutes, most of all F9, which is the most aggressively turgid of the lot.
