The trailer also shows off the first glimpse of Jack Hyde, Ana's editor at Seattle Independent Publishing, played by Eric Johnson. This scene is presumably ripped straight from the source material, where Jack corners Ana and attempts to blackmail her in return for sex.

If it goes anything like the book, though, she'll use her surprising self-defense skills to escape the situation, which has some hilarious on-screen potential.

Jack is essentially the villain of the final two Shades books, so how well he's portrayed here will heavily determine how plausible these movies are, considering they see the series moving into erotic thriller territory rather than the straight-up relationship drama of the first film.
