FINAL DESTINATION 5 director shortlist, release date August 2011

The fifth Final Destination movie, likely to be titled Final Destination 3-D has been given an August 26th 2011 release by New Line says Vulture. This despite the last movie being hyped as The Final Destination and the multitude of horrendous reviews (27% rotten on RT) seemingly choking the life out of the franchise. But the series just - won't - die, even with New Line seemingly unimpressed with the latest 'death is stalking us' horror entry, with one exec quoted as saying;
€œIt€™s the worst film of the franchise. And that€™s not my opinion; that€™s everyone€™s opinion.€
Astonishingly the movie performed well. It€™s $200 million worldwide gross (it only opened in Italy last week and continues to make money) from a $40 million budget meant The Final Destination is the highest grossing film in the history of the franchise both domestically and internationally. Clearly, New Line didn€™t expect the movie to perform the way it did but once the franchise proved itself more profitable than ever before, €˜they couldn€™t resist€™ but make another as Alan Horn said at ShoWest. Eric Heisserer, the man responsible for writing the screenplays for the remakes to A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Thing has put together the story, with visual effects guru€™s, Steve Quale (co-director of James Cameron€™s Aliens of the Deep), Bradley Parker (visual effects & second unit on Let Me In) and Charles Gibson (second unit & visual effects on Terminator Salvation and the POTC franchise) all vying to direct. The movie has been announced for IMAX 3-D, and the easy title solution problem (as they skipped numbering the 4th movie as Final Destination 4) is to call the new movie Final Destination 3-D.
