Friday The 13th: Ranking Every Movie From Worst To Best

6. Friday The 13th Part III

Obviously deciding smell-o-vision wasn't the way forward for the franchise, director Steve Miner plumped for 3D. Horror was desperately trying to fight the blockbusters at the box-office and after such lousy attempts as Jaws 3D and Amityville 3D, Paramount decided this was the way forward. Funnily enough, it sort of worked as, on the opening weekend, Jason knocked off that annoying little alien, ET, from the top of the box office.

Set the day after Part II (making this film, er, Saturday the 14th) we first meet Jason, after surviving the completely unprovoked attack at the end of the last film, go into a local store and, after much clothes poles being wobbled about in-front of the 3D camera, he dispatches the couple who work there. We then meet our group of loveable teens who, after a run-in with the nicest biker gang in American, hole up at a lake-side house. Obviously, Jason dispatches them post-haste and manages to pick up his trademark hockey mask from loveable nerd Shelly, before killing him too. After a fight to the death, Final Girl Chris Higgins (Dana Kimmell) dispatches of Jason with an axe to the head and a barnyard hanging.

In all truth, this is quite a fun entry in the series. Watching the numerous ways the makers crow-barred 3D into the movie is hilarious from yoyo's being dropped down to eyeballs popping out, it gives a certain kitschy charm. Add to that Kimmell as one of the better Final Girls and British trapeze artist Richard Brooker as a physically interesting Jason, and you have a solid entry. Luckily, the film drops the idea that Chris was abused by Jason years before quite quickly and, obviously, most fans know this as the film where Jason got the hockey mask.
