Friday The 13th Movies: 13 Things You Didn't Know

9. Jason Wore An Umpire's Mask

Friday the 13th - Umpire In the original script for Friday the 13th Part III - the movie where Jason first dons his trademark hockey mask - Jason was supposed to wear a mask borrowed from the greatest sport of all time, American baseball (hockey is the second best sport and bowling is third). It's hard to believe the hockey mask wasn't part of the original plan - the mask is such an obviously terrifying look, after all - but I suppose that's easy to say in hindsight. As the theory goes, the umpire's mask was dropped due to the time it would take to create the visible portion of Jason's deformed face beneath the mask. Instead, a hockey mask was used because it covers the entire face - no makeup required!
