Friday The 13th Series: Jason's 10 Best Kills

5. Freddy Vs Jason - Rave Massacre

Once Freddy Vs Jason finally arrived in 2003, it was way overdue. The crossover of the two great horror titans of the 80s had been on the cards since New Line Cinema obtained the rights to Jason from Paramount, and made Jason Goes To Hell - but for whatever reason, progress was painfully slow. Fan opinion seems divided on whether or not it was worth the wait (I say it was), but one things for sure; Freddy and Jason did battle in a horror landscape pretty far removed from the one they'd left behind.

By the early 2000s, horror movies had grown unusually restrained. The success of The Blair Witch Project, The Sixth Sense and Ring had popularised a less-is-more approach where suggestion was king, and gore was frowned upon. Refreshingly, Freddy Vs Jason kicked that nonsense straight out of the window and got back to piling on the carnage, in a film with possibly the highest body count of any title from either series.

There are a slew of eye-catching deaths in the movie, almost all of which are Jason's handiwork; and to my mind, no scene stands as a better statement of intent for Freddy Vs Jason than the hack-happy cornfield rave sequence, in which - having just offed two stoners - Jason emerges on fire into the crowd and swings his machete left and right. The sheer level of arterial spray is insane.
