Frozen 2: 10 Key Questions You Should Be Asking

1. Can It Match The Impact Of The Original?

The main difficulty facing Frozen 2 will be trying to follow up a film which enjoyed such unexpected and immense success. For all Frozen’s flaws, it managed to feel unique, subversive and fresh, winning over cinemagoers who usually avoid Disney films. Even if Frozen 2 proves to be substantially better, it could end up being the victim of unreasonably high expectations.

In addition to maintaining the quality of the original, Frozen 2 will have to repeat its box office success. It will probably need to earn at least $100 million in its opening weekend to be regarded as a hit, and even this may not be enough – Toy Story 4’s $120 million debut underwhelmed several commentators.

Furthermore, the original Frozen owed a lot of its success to excellent word of mouth, staying at the top of the box office for most of the winter season. It will be hard to maintain such a hold this year with the likes of Star Wars Episode IX, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 2 and Cats arriving during the Christmas period.

Following Frozen won’t be easy, but we can be reasonably confident that Disney Animation have put in the time and effort necessary to make it worth watching. However, we don’t know whether Frozen 2 will merely be a competent addition to the Frozen franchise, or whether it will be as iconic as the original - this question will only be answered when we see the movie for ourselves.
