Frozen 2 Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
2. Olaf Steals The Show
It's fair to say that hyperactive magical snowman Olaf was a divisive character in the first movie: kids loved him, of course, but many adults found him more obnoxiously irritating than charming.
Thankfully Frozen 2 streamlines the more objectionable aspects of Olaf's personality and, in turn, makes him the movie's most purely entertaining character.
From some clever sight gags involving his malleable snowman form, to the fact that Olaf spends most of the movie suffering through an existential crisis, the character is given a far meatier role this time around, yet never in a way that feels cynical or driven by merchandising concerns.
If you hated Olaf the first time around, Frozen 2 probably won't change your mind completely, but you might be pleasantly surprised by how tolerable, even likable, he is here.
