Frozen 2 Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

2. The Underwhelming New Characters

Though the marketing teased a cast of compelling new characters, it has to be said that they mostly feel crushingly underdeveloped and, therefore, nowhere near as interesting as they could've been.

Disappointingly, only a scant amount of screen time is lent to the most significant new characters, Yelana (Martha Plimpton), the leader of the Northuldra tribe, and Lt. Mattias (Sterling K. Brown), a soldier trapped in the enchanted forest.

Their screen time typically consists of simply moving the plot forward with exposition, and we learn precious little of their actual personalities, which might've endeared them better to viewers.

Elsewhere, the additional Northuldra warriors just feel like filler characters, and most are unlikely to even remember their names by the end of the movie.
