Furious 7 Review: 15 Reasons It's The Best In The Series

11. The Plot Has Never Been Less Important (And That's A Good Thing)

Plot has never been at a huge premium in these movies, but it's borderline hilarious how little it really matters here. Yes, it's primarily a revenge story about Han, but the various plot beats which provide a direction for all the action are for the large part effortless, simple and totally inconsequential. One of the "major" plot points is Dom and the team tracking down hacker Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) in order to use a complex surveillance program called God's Eye to find Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). It's utter nonsense and the movie completely knows it, asking the viewer to invest only a surface level of interest in it, instead choosing to push towards the next action scene as frantically as possible. And the strangest thing is that it totally works, because the movie drops all pretense of crafting a nuanced plot and just focuses on delivering the visceral, bombastic goods.
